The 2013 Edition of the Richmond Midget AAA CHUCKERS – slightly short staffed due to players ill, tied up or committed to the Midget AAA SELECT program – gave it their best shot this past weekend before falling to the Chucker Alumni yet again. (4 out of 5 times.)
They even jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st inning by getting to Coach Matt Winograd before he settled down and held them scoreless for the next two innings. As did pitchers Derek Simpson, and Hayden Malcolm into the 8th. 2004 Midget Provincial Champ – Jon Warner – showed them some mercy and allowed 1 run in the 9th for a 6-4 final score.
The Alumni were led by some timely hitting by Rhys Verde Rios and some outstanding defensive plays by himself, Derek Simpson, catcher Cam Walker amongst others.
While the 6-4 win for the Alumni may be something to boast about at some point, the “HIGHLIGHT” of the day was easily seeing 2009 Alumni Freddie Cote (and recent stroke victim for lack of the correct medical term) out to throw the Opening Pitch which bodes well for his recovery efforts ahead….(To be aided in part by the players that raised $1,000 – $100 / run scored – in this weekend’s game. That’s to be added to the already $2,750 raised towards that during the last World Series Pool which many of us participated in.)
Freddie’s family “greatly appreciated your efforts in helping him to get the extra physiotherapy required in moving forward” and I can only wish “Good Karma” to all of you for your help in him doing so.
“THANKS” to all those that helped both organize and participated in either the game or field prep in bringing the 2013 Richmond MIDGET AAA CHUCKERS ALUMNI GAME to fruition.
Only time will tell what lies ahead for 2014!! ( 4 Team Round Robin “Money Tournament” culminating with Final at “The Nat”?)
